Rainbow E2 runs only on low speed, or won't start at all
On an E2, both of these usually trace back to one small part: the thermistor on the control board, which cracks after years of heating and cooling. Rule out the simple causes first — one of them is free.

1. Seat the water basin
The E2 will not start unless the basin is fully seated and the latches are closed — it is a safety switch. Take the basin off, check the latches and the small spring-loaded part that the basin presses, and put it back firmly. This alone fixes a surprising number of "dead" machines.
2. Check the power
Try another outlet, and look along the cord for a kink, a cut or a hot spot near the plug. A damaged cord is a repair, not something to tape.
3. Low speed only, or stops after a minute
If the machine starts but will not go to high speed, or runs and then cuts out, the controller board is the likely cause. Inside it, the thermistor — a small disc that limits the inrush current — cracks with age. The board then cannot drive the motor properly.
The board runs on household voltage. Do not open it unless you are qualified to work on mains electronics.
What the repair is
A factory service center replaces the whole controller: $339 with your old board traded in, $490 without. When only the thermistor has failed, the board does not need replacing — the part does. We do that at component level for $299, prepaid shipping both ways included. If something else on the board has failed too, we quote a refurbished or new board before doing anything.
